Dr. Harshal A. Arolkar serves as the Professor & Head of the postgraduate programs at GLS University, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. An ardent practitioner and passionate advocate of open source technology he possesses more than 26 years of teaching experience in Computer Science. He earned a B.Sc. in Electronics from Gujarat University and a Ph. D and MCA in Computer Science from Bhavnagar University's Department of Computer Science.
He is the co-author and convener of 13 Computer Science textbooks for the Gujarat State Education Board, Government of Gujarat. He is co-author of 6 books on the subject: Data Driven Managers: An Analytical Approach (SYBGEN Learning India Private Limited), Working with Personal Computer Software (Wiley India), Simplifying C (Dreamtech Press), Problem Solving Using Python and Machine Learning (Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University), and Data Structures (Atul Prakashan).
10 of his guided students have earned Ph.D.s in Computer Applications/Information Technology. He has published over 60 research papers in international and national journals and conferences. His research focuses on data analytics, cloud and network security, natural language processing, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and its applications, wireless sensor networks, and assistive technology.
He serves on the advisory board for the National Journals of Computer Science and Applications. He is a reviewer and member of the Editorial Board for a number of foreign publications in computer science and its applications. In addition, he has served in a variety of roles at national and international conferences.
He is associated with a number of professional organizations, including the Internet Society, the International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology (IACSIT), and the Computer Society of India. He has been an active member of the Ahmedabad Chapter of the Computer Society of India, serving on the Managing Committee, as Honorary Secretary, Vice Chairman, Chairman, and Nomination Committee. The Computer Society of India gave him the Significant Contribution Award for the year 2009–2010, and he also won the Chapter Patron honor in 2019.
